In a grand display, the Midday Salute celebrates the contributions of many Australians through a tri-forces display spanning Sydney Harbour.
The ceremony begins with the Australian Army’s 21-Gun Salute, echoing across the water from North Sydney and commanding the attention of everyone gathered along the foreshore.
HMAS Canberra, the Royal Australian Navy’s flagship, takes centre stage as a Seahawk helicopter sweeps overhead, proudly carrying the Australian National Flag in a breathtaking aerial display.
High above, the Royal Australian Air Force joins the moment with a fast-jet flypast, timed to the final notes of the national anthem at midday, followed by an exhilarating handling display, a testament to precision, and skill.
In the heart of the harbour an on-water smoking ceremony is performed on board the Wirawi, part of the Tribal Warrior Aboriginal Corporation fleet, cleansing all who gather.
The Midday Salute concludes with a shared moment of unity as the crowds around Circular Quay are encouraged to sing the National Anthem.
