Welcoming New Australians
Choosing to become an Australian citizen is a profound commitment and a milestone that many people work towards for years. The NSW Government Citizenship Ceremony celebrates this important achievement as people from around the world pledge their commitment to Australia and officially become part of our national community.
Set against the iconic backdrop of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour, the ceremony recognises the journeys of those who have chosen to make Australia home. It celebrates the diverse cultures, experiences and stories that enrich our nation, while acknowledging a shared commitment to the values, freedoms and opportunities that bring Australians together.
Family, friends and visitors are invited to witness this special occasion as hundreds of new citizens make the Australian Citizenship Pledge. It is a powerful reminder that Australia is strengthened by people from many backgrounds who choose to embrace the responsibilities of citizenship and play an active role in their communities.
Held at one of Australia's most recognisable landmarks, the NSW Government Citizenship Ceremony reflects the values of belonging, respect, opportunity and community. It is a celebration of commitment, belonging and connection, as we proudly welcome a new generation of Australians.
For many participants and their families, becoming an Australian citizen marks the beginning of a new chapter. It is a moment to celebrate their journey, recognise their achievement and welcome their ongoing participation in Australia's future. The ceremony reflects the shared values, diversity and sense of belonging that continue to shape Australia as a vibrant, welcoming and connected nation.
