Since 1977, the Ferrython has been staged on Australia Day. In 2022, Sydney’s beloved ferries will be colourfully dressed in honour of their namesakes – May Gibbs, Catherine Hamlin, Victor Chang and Pemulwuy.  Cheer on your favourite ferry as they compete for honours in the race from Fort Denison, around Shark Island and back to the finish line under the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Australia Day is an opportunity to thank people across NSW who have stepped up during this difficult time to help others in the community. Various community groups and charitable organisations will be offered positions on board the four vessels participating in the Ferrython. For 2022, there is no general admission for the Ferrython. You can still get involved in the fun of the Ferrython by cheering on your favourite ferry as they cross the finish line under the Sydney Harbour Bridge from the best vantage points at Hickson Road Reserve or Bradfield Park.

Why not get amongst the action on the water on board a commercial or charter boat? Many operators will be taking bookings for daytime cruises on Australia Day.

Best vantage points: Between the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Shark Island, Milsons Point off Jeffrey St Wharf (best location), Lavender Bay.

Don’t have your own boat but still want to join in all the fun of the Harbour Parade? For the best seats in and amongst all the Sydney Harbour action, book a cruise on board one of the charter boats taking part.
