Public transport

There are plenty of ways to celebrate Australia Day with a variety of events across Sydney. With road closures in place, the best way to get around is by public transport.

Get around Sydney

You’ll need an Opal Card to travel on public transport. You can also use a credit or debit card to tap on and off if you’re catching a train, ferry or light rail service.

All the events in the Sydney CBD are within close walking distance of train stations, bus stops, ferry wharves and light rail services. Services to and from the city will run frequently, and there will be additional services running late at night to help you get home from the evening events at Circular Quay.
