Public transport

There are plenty of ways to celebrate Australia Day with a variety of events across Sydney. With road closures in place, the best way to get around is by public transport.

Get around Sydney

All the events in the Sydney CBD are within close walking distance of major transport hubs, and frequent services will be running throughout the day.

Some buses, ferries and light rail services will be affected by road closures and events taking place in the Sydney CBD. Some ferry services won’t operate at all or will use alternative wharves during harbour exclusion zones in the morning and evening.

Buses will relocate from Circular Quay to Martin Place stops from 4pm, and Sydney CBD light rail services won’t run between Circular Quay and Town Hall after 4pm.

Ferries are popular on Sundays and are likely to reach capacity early, so consider catching the train or bus into the city instead.

You can now use your American Express, MasterCard or Visa contactless-enabled card or linked device to tap on and off all public transport services where Opal is accepted.
