Australia’s queen of disco, Marcia Hines, is set to bring down the house this Australia Day 2018 alongside an all-star cast at one of the most iconic locations in the world – the Sydney Opera House.
The singer is the latest act to be announced for Sydney’s annual Australia Day concert Live at Sydney Opera House, which for the first time will include the Australia Day fireworks which move to Circular Quay from Darling Harbour.
Ms Hines said she was looking forward to joining the line-up of star performers on the Opera House forecourt in a show that will pay tribute to the country she loves.
“I just can’t wait - there is something magical about performing for a home crowd on Australia Day,” Ms Hines said.
“It is an honour to celebrate our wonderful rich Australian culture with what will be an exceptional live show.”
Hines’ highly successful career spans four decades, with 22 albums, countless chart-topping singles and multi-platinum records as well as her 2007 induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
The artist will take time out from her current Australian tour with new show ‘Disco Inferno’ to join the concert, which will be free to attend but limited to those who win tickets in a high-demand ballot.
“I am thrilled to have Marcia on board. She has one of the most soulful voices in Australian music history and will get everybody up and dancing,” said John Foreman, Australia Day Creative Director.
“Her fantastic vocals will complement a memorable show, complete with a dramatic fireworks finale. Our theme for Australia Day 2018 in NSW is Everyone, Every Story, and our diverse line-up of high-calibre artists and performers will bring this to life.”
Singing star Anthony Callea will also be performing, with more artists to be announced soon.
Australia Day 2018 – Live at Sydney Opera House is part of Network Ten’s live broadcast of Australia Day 2018, hosted by Grant Denyer with special guest host Sandra Sully and supported by the NSW Government via its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW.
