Darling Harbour to benefit from bigger, brighter Australia Day 2018
Darling Harbour visitors can Get Ready to Wiggle this Australia Day, with an additional performance from a worldwide act to bolster the schedule.
Australia Day Council of NSW chairman Angelos Frangopoulos said that due to public demand, crowd favourite The Wiggles will take to the stage not once but twice.
“Darling Harbour continues to attract thousands of visitors on Australia Day every year to be entertained and to celebrate our wonderful country; 2018 will be no different,” said Mr Frangopoulos.
“Crowds will have the opportunity to Do the Propeller! or The Monkey Dance to their favourite songs by The Wiggles, in addition to many other activities and performances around Tumbalong Park, Cockle Bay Wharf and Darling Quarter.”
Tumbalong Park and Darling Harbour will transform into the ‘Summer Playground’ and host this year’s Children’s Festival, with the late afternoon program at the park featuring an enhanced entertainment program.
The day will also include the True Blue Bush Games, featuring a watermelon-eating competition, thong-throwing challenge and a wife-carrying race, providing lots of laughs throughout the day.
This year’s program at Darling Harbour will include live music and DJs into the evening, enticing everyone to get up and show off their dance moves.
An exciting evening performance by party band Furnace and the Fundamentals will conclude the action-packed program.
“We love being based here at Darling Harbour, especially on Australia Day,” said Andre Felicio, chef and owner of Brazilian barbecue restaurant Braza Churrascaria.
“There’s so much on – it gets really busy and there’s a real buzz with live music and dancing; people come here from everywhere. We’re always delighted to be part of such a special day.”
Sydney’s annual fireworks display, the Australia Day Spectacular, has a new home this coming year in Circular Quay, with Live at the Quay! becoming part of the live broadcast of the Australia Day 2018 – Live at Sydney Opera House concert on Channel 10. Further announcements about the live broadcast will be made soon.
The Wiggles Australia Day Concerts are brought to you by the NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW.
