When Addam Lockey took part in Clean Up Australia Day, he realised that year-round work was needed to keep the NSW Mid North Coast clean. Inspired to make a difference, Addam co-founded Coastal Warriors – a group of over 250 volunteers who meet monthly in different coastal areas to remove litter from the environment.
Coastal Warriors also educates and connects with the community – informing people of the impacts of pollution and the importance of recycling. Addam carries out talks for community groups and schools and recently worked with local member Leslie Williams to do a ‘Straws off the Shores’ campaign to reduce plastic straw use. Addam also helped to purchase a floating filtration bin in Port Macquarie to remove litter from the ocean. He is working on obtaining funding for the production of a cooling pod – a device that lowers sea temperatures and improves living conditions for coral.
