Message from the Premier of New South Wales
Once again I join with my fellow Australians in celebrating Australia Day and wishing you all a very happy and rewarding experience.
We are a nation renowned for our strength and optimism, especially in the face of daunting challenges – the recent global financial crisis, the loss of young Australian lives in war, the hardship suffered by many in natural disasters.
On this Australia Day our thoughts go out to the victims of the devastating floods in many parts of New South Wales and other States, and the brave farmers and families still coping with loss and hardship.
In difficult times we draw strength and inspiration from our story as a nation, our progress from humble beginnings as a penal colony to be one of the world’s most prosperous democracies, a member of the G20 group of nations and a respected member of the international community.
We give thanks today for the achievements of our people, and above all for our collective achievement as a nation, a nation based on freedom and the rule of law, on fairness and equal opportunity, and the innate dignity of the individual.
Truly we are fortunate to be citizens of this great country and part of its proud story.
