80 per cent of Australians believe Australia has a strong culture and identity. Australians describe their culture and identity as follows.

  • 60 per cent of Australians believe that being down to earth is a very important part of Australian identity.
  • 50 per cent of Australians feel that mateship is a very important part of Australian identity.
  • 50 per cent of Australians continue to believe that sport is a very important part of Australian identity.
  • Almost half of all Australians believe honesty is a very important part of Australian identity.
  • One-third of Australians believe that mateship has helped develop Australia’s unique culture and identity the most.
  • 25 per cent of Australians believe that multiculturalism has helped develop Australia’s unique culture and identity the most.
