Committee Members

Angelos Frangopoulos

Chairman of the Australia Day Council of NSW since 2010. 
Angelos is the Chief Executive Officer of Australian News Channel Pty Ltd. Mr Frangopoulos is also a member of the Council of Charles Sturt University, a Board Member of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute and a member of the Advisory Council of the Centre for Media History at Macquarie University.

John Biffin

Retired Marine Pilot and Master Mariner.
John has been involved with Australia Day for twenty years and been on the Australia Day Council since 1996. He very much enjoys being involved and seeing all Australia Day events including those on and around the Harbour going from strength to strength.

Jim Carroll

Chief Executive Officer of Multiple Sclerosis Australia.
Jim joined the not-for-profit sector in 2012 after a distinguished career in the media industry. A journalist by profession he started in newspapers and radio before moving into television where he was an award winning executive producer and long serving Head of News and Current Affairs for Network Ten.  Jim holds an economics degree, served as a senior political advisor in the NSW Government, is deputy chairman of the Australian Science Media Centre and has an extensive history of community involvement.

Greg Daniel AM

Executive Chairman of SR7.   SR7 is Australia’s leading social media intelligence and research firm.  Greg is one of Australia’s most experienced marketing communications executives.  He has been CEO of the country’s most awarded ad agency, The Campaign Palace, and CEO and Deputy Chairman for 10 years of Clemenger BBDO.  Greg has also been a director of Tourism Australia, British American Tobacco and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.  He was awarded the order of Australia for his role as Chairman of the Communications Commission for the Sydney Olympic Games.

David Field FAICD has extensive Board Chairmanship, Non Executive Director & Chief Executive experience gained from a 40 year corporate career at both National and International level. David is current serving on a number of Boards including Field & Associates Pty Ltd, Norton White Lawyers & Notaries, The Merchant Navy War Memorial Fund Ltd, United Way Sydney and The Royal Exchange of Sydney.

Neil Flett

Executive Chairman of rogenSi IP Ltd
Neil's background is in journalism, PR and management consulting. Within rogenSi, Neil specialises in coaching and advising business leaders in all aspects of communication strategy and delivery. He is a director of The Starlight Children’s Foundation and has been involved with Australia Day since 1997. His motivation comes from being proudly Australian and being fascinated in watching and supporting the growth of our national spirit.

Kurt Fearnley OAM

Paralympian. Born without the lower portion of his spine, at the age of 14 Kurt took up wheelchair racing and has since become an elite international athlete, with one gold, two silver and one bronze, Olympic medals.  In his highly competitive class, Kurt has not finished off the podium in over 20 marathons he’s competed in since 2000.  With an indomitable spirit that is truly inspirational, Kurt was a finalist for the prestigious Laureus Awards for the Most Outstanding International Athlete with Disability and in 2009 was named NSW Young Australian of the Year.

Bruce Phillips

National Partner in Charge - Information, Communications & Entertainment at KPMG. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants as well as the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.  In 2003 Bruce was awarded a Centenary medal for his services to the community.  Bruce is enthusiastic about Australia Day because it brings together so many values that Australian respect and want to see flourish.  He has been with the Australia Day Council since 1999 and became Deputy Chairman in 2011.

Robbie Sefton

Operates a national communication organisation that develops public relations and marketing campaigns to reach people living and working in rural, regional and remote Australia. Robbie also co-owns a farming and grazing property at Manilla in North-West NSW. Some of Robbie’s current and recent board positions include the National Australia Day Council, Observant Pty Ltd, Graziers Investment Company (previously Australian Wool Services - the Woolmark Company), The Australian Rural Leadership Foundation; Member of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Regional Women’s Advisory Council.

Scientia Professor Veena Sahajwalla

Director of Sustainable Materials Research & Technology Centre (SMaRT @UNSW) at the University of New South Wales and Associate Dean (Strategic Industry Relations) Faculty of Science. Veena is an Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellow at the UNSW. In May 2012, Veena was appointed as a commissioner on the Climate Commission.  Professor Sahajwalla is an internal award-winning scientist and engineer, whose achievements include inventing a process of recycling plastics and rubber tyres in steelmaking. The benefits of this technology for Australian and International steelmaking include reduction in energy consumption.

Ricky Walford

Former Australian former professional rugby league footballer of the 1980s and 90s. He played for the Sydney Roosters, North Sydney Bears and the St. George Dragons. After retiring, Walford became the Indigenous Programme Manager for the Australian Rugby League's development function.

Mark Warren

Principal of Mark Warren Consulting. He was previously the Commercial Manager NSW/ACT for Australia Post from 2000 to 2010.Mark is currently on the board of the Westmead Medical Research Foundation and a Children’s Charity, Best of the Best.  He is a past member of the VisAsia Council of the NSW Art Gallery.  Mark is keen to ensure that all Australians continue to acknowledge and celebrate our National Day.  He has been with the Australia Day Council since 2008.
