Barclay Wade
Ambassador for Balranald Shire Council
In 1961 he was part of the all- Mosman Australian Rowing Team to New Zealand.
At the age of 17, he was a Bronze medallist in the 1962 Commonwealth Games held in Perth and he competed in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics at the age of 19. He has represented Australia on three occasions.
In 1962 and 1964 Barclay won the Australian Double Sculling Championships.
A former student of Shore School in North Sydney, he has won the GPS Head of the River three times and for many years coached at the Mosman Rowing Club and Shore School.
He volunteered for the Sydney Olympic Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG) in 2000 and was selected to carry the Olympic Torch in both the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Torch Relay.
Since its inception in 1991, Barclay also worked as a volunteer with company making Sydney’s bid for the 2000 Olympic Games. His volunteer role involved facilitating between the I.O.C and the Athletes Commission on their visits to Sydney. He worked on many promotional activities such as the Royal Easter Show, Olympic Awareness Week and speaking to schools about the Bid. In 1994 he successfully completed SOCOG’s inaugural Volunteer Guides Training Program and was an integral member of the Olympic Speakers Group.
Barclay has run his own flood restoration business for the past 35 years. He is former Vice-President of Lifeline and a member of the Salvation Army Youth Crisis Team and has worked with Camp Quality and has been an Australia Day Ambassador for the past six years.
